MENAI BRIDGE SCOUTS AND GUIDES
The local Scouts and Guides are aiming to replace their hut with a new building which would serve the whole community. Fundraising is underway and the target is about £209,000 to cover the whole project, and to date they have raised over £8,000 towards rebuilding costs.
You can sponsor-a-brick at £1 a brick (virtual ones). This process started in March and has now raised over £700. To sponsor a brick please contact Jenny Pattullo on 01248 713263 or Malcolm Rogers at Maes y Coed, Lon Ty Mawr, Llandegfan, LL59 5TS.
MENAI MEMBERS ASSOCIATION OF THE NATIONAL TRUST
The Music Room at Plas Newydd was the venue for the Christmas evening during which members celebrated 30 years of involvement with the home of the Marquess of Anglesey.
During a well attended evening, members enjoyed a four-course meal prepared by four members and presentations from long standing members of the association.
Yvonne Whitley spoke about the early years of volunteering for the Trust, while John Evans, the longest serving property manager, gave an account of his role.
Members also heard from John Dennis, head gardener from 1979, who described the many changes in scenery and planting during his time.
The present property manager, Paul Carr Griffin, looked back to 1976 and how changes have impacted on the house, stressing the importance of the association to the house.
Members also heard from Howard Treece about collecting photographs and stories over the last 30 years to further enrich the archives. The aim is to produce a booklet covering this period.
