NDA To Sell Wylfa Land

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is gearing up to sell land adjacent to Wylfa Nuclear Power Station at Cemaes on Anglesey.
There has been considerable speculation about the future of Wylfa following the UK Governemnt announcement in favour of new nuclear in January 2008.
A number of power generation companies, including French giant EDF, are understood to have been involved in preliminary discussions.
A spokesman from the NDA confirmed that they had carried out a "market engagement exercise" in March to find out the interest level for certain of its assets.
The NDA has said that in the current market environment they want to use a competitve process to gain optimal value for the land in question.
Three sites have been identified, which do not come under the Energy Act, and these are at Wylfa, Oldbury in Gloucestershire and Bradwell in Essex.
The Authority says it will engage with all interested parties, including those who expressed an interest during the first market engagement earlier this year.
It will be interesting to see how the renewed interest expressed by EDF in the takeover of British Energy Group will affect the prospects of a new Wylfa B power plant on the island being in the first tranche of new sites.
