Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Day 2008
by Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Team
(Moelfre)
Each year just gets better. And thanks to our faithful followers we have a great day raising funds for the RNLI.
This year the event Moelfre Lifeboat Day will be on Saturday, 2nd August.
The day starts early for traders, many arriving at 7am to get their stalls up before the village is closed to traffic from 10 am until 10 pm.
Each year sees new stalls and he village is beginning to take on a market atmosphere.
We have stalls selling home-made cakes, pickles, chutneys etc, hand made wooden gifts, slate products, jewellery, and second hand goods.
The there are children's clothes, gift stalls and various circus stalls to amuse children as well as face painting, bouncy castle, doghnuts and candy floss.
For the adults we have the very succesful Hog Roast stall, burgers and hot dogs.
The village shops are open too, where the Wheel and Anchor sell fish and chips, pizza's etc. Moelfre Stores with fresh bread, sweets and drinks and Ann's pantry, Licensed Cafe and restaurant.
And the Kinmel Arms will be doing a brisk trade down in the harbour. Twm Pen Stryd Gift Shop stocks beautiful gifts and there is a cafe at the rear of the shop where you can sit and rest your feet.
The local Moelfre Post Office stocks drinks and sweets and a limited range of children's toys.
Further up the hill is the Oak Lodge, so why not stop there on your way home for your final meal of the day.
The streets will buzz with live music hopefully provided by local group "Pigs Ear" and also "Reckless Elbow", both of whom perform each year for us.
We have a children's fancy dress competition and a Lucky Lifeboat Draw and Auction. And a children's disco runs from tea time until eveeryone gets tired, usually late in the evening.
To get to the real reason for this day, the boathouse will be open from approximately 10 am for guided boat viewing and the boat will launch for the crowd at lunch time (high tide 12.15).
We will have a display of crazy antics from the crew, amny of whom will end up with a good dunking in the water. But all ends well when they are taken pity on by other concerned crew members and rescued from the water.
The capsize dinghy will be showing us all how it is done and righted again, and all this wearing full gear and wellies!
All around the harbour wthere will be small boats waiting for their chance to soak the crew on the lifeboat with a bucket of water. Watch the fun as the crew fight back.
Pop into the Seawatch Centre and view the history of the area. See the lifeboat "Birds Eye" and climb aboard.
Look out for displays showing items found on the sea bed from the Royal Charter and items from the submarine Thetis.
Finally, when the day is over and ou have all returned home you can leave your views on how you enjoyed your day using the comment link below.
We look foward to hearing from you about the Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Day. Enjoy!
